These days, I’ve been listening to a lot less rap and a lot more RAC.

I’m a sucker for mellow tracks like this…
The Weeknd was 2011
December 29, 2011

Music in 2011 saw the resurgence of R&B and the continued dominance by artists from Canada. Frank Ocean killed it early on in the year, but sadly, he is not a native Canadian. In my very humble opinion, the year belonged to Canada’s very own Abel Tesfaye (not to be confused with OctobVariesOwn). The Weeknd released a series of three mixtapes this year: House of Ballons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence (all of which are freely downloadable).
As my final blog post of the year, I figure it would be fitting to post the closing track from House of Ballons…
Other notable songs from 2011:
- Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx “I’ll Take Care of U”
- Foster the People “Pumped Up Kicks”
- Kendrick Lamar “A.D.H.D.”
- The Black Keys “Lonely Boy”
- Tyler, the Creator “Yonkers”
- Bon Iver “Calgary”
- LMFAO “Party Rock Anthem”
- Toro Y Moi “New Beat”
- Big K.R.I.T. “The Vent”
- M83 “Midnight City”
- Theophilus London “I Stand Alone”
- Mayer Hawthorne “The Walk”
- The Weeknd “Wicked Games”
- Cocaine 80s “Six Ft. Over”
- Feist “The Bad In Each Other”
- Frank Ocean “We All Try”
“Last Donut of the Night”
